MMCD History
1958MMCD Founded
The Metropolitan Mosquito Control District (MMCD) was created by the Minnesota state legislature (Minn. Statute 473.704) in 1958 for the benefit of citizens of Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, and Washington counties.1984Biting Gnat Program Begins
Small-stream monitoring of black flies and biting gnats began in 1984. The large river program began with experimental treatments and non-target impact studies in 1987. A full-scale large river treatment program has been going on since 1996.1989Tick Monitoring Program Launched
MMCD begins work with the Minnesota Department of Health to develop tick control management techniques. Since no economical and environmentally sound wide-scale tick control measures currently exist, our services include tick-borne disease monitoring and education programs.
